tek to use Qualcomm chips in 4G ZenFone

Taiwanese electronics maker tek Computer said Wednesday it will use Qualcomm as its second chip supplier for the low-cost ZenFone smartphone range as part of efforts to achieve an aggressive growth target.

tek plans to use Qualcomm chipsets in its first 4G LTE-capable ZenFone model set for launch in July, said CEO Jerry Shen.

In addition to the confirmed 4G-capable Zenfone, tek could partner with Qualcomm or other chipmakers for future products, Shen revled.

Shen said tek aims to ship 5 million to 10 million smart this yr before doubling shipments in 2015 and again in 2016.

The company's monthly smartphone production capacity is expected to be more than 500,000 units in May and 600,000 in June.
